My First Ice Skating Experience...

5th Jan '10

after much contemplation and persuasion, finally decided to give ice skating a try! now i wouldn't say i regret cause it was really quite interesting, especially for a first timer like me.

the whole process was similar to a kid learning how to walk all over again. every step was out of my control, looking at how some of them could skate so gracefully, i was there moving slowly (i wouldn't even say i was skating) and carefully in case i fall...

something to be happy about is that i actually managed to learn to 'skate' very slowly without holding onto the sides after a couple of times of falling down. that's a considerable achievement for me already... must thank audrey, huei-wen, qing lin, chee hung, and 2 of chee hung's college friends (cheng yie & samantha).

come to think of it, everyone of them helped me a lot, probably because i was the most handicapped one there. felt a lil bad though when they had to skate so slowly to teach me, they could actually skate like pro already! but that's what made me feel good, to have friends by my side helping me when everything seemed like impossible. (it was really veryyy slippery!)

they're all being very encouraging... with all the "see, you are doing better", "surely can one, come try to not hold the wall anymore", "i'll stay near you, don't worry, just skate..." very nice to hear those words you know :)

another thing i appreciated was when a stranger helped me up. there was this time i fell down in the middle of nowhere, this girl immediately helped me up. i witnessed a lot of this happening around the skating rink, people who never knew each other but automatically helped one another. isn't that just pleasant?

enough of the nice things i realised. apart from those, i almost couldn't feel my feet towards the end. was thinking if it's because i didn't skate in the proper way or what. it was worse for huei-wen, she had a blister that was bleeding without her knowing until she removed the skates and saw one big red patch on her white socks! ouchouch.

i never never felt so great to be in slippers before... it's exactly like i lost my feet previously and just got them back!

too bad we didn't take any pictures that day.

later, we headed back to one u. 7 people (including the driver) in the car! *thanks chee hung for driving us* played an interesting game of continuing the story with only three words when we were stuck in the jam. everyone was too tired, so we just sat somewhere and talked...
